History of the Wishkah Valley School District

The following is a brief history, started by Wishkah Valley students in 2004 as a class project for history teacher Bob Eager, of the Wishkah Valley School District. As we develop this web page, anyone who has corrections or additions (especially high quality pictures) is encouraged to contact Don Hay by email, dhay@wishkah.org.

Introduction

By the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, North of Aberdeen, there were several schools in the Wishkah and East Hoquiam valleys. By 1920 there were seven little schools that were scattered throughout the area.

Summary

If you are interested in viewing original glass-slide photographs of the people and schools in the Wishkah and East Hoquiam valleys, visit the Polson Museum in Hoquiam, which has hundreds of original glass-plate negatives. The glass negatives are from Oral M. Patterson's work.

Many times a photo would appear in the local newspaper with Eugene Patterson (Oral's son) as the contributor, but in most cases it was Oral's work. Visit http://www.polsonmuseum.org/ for more information.

If anyone has corrections or additions please feel free to comment on this blog site. If the information can be confirmed as accurate, we can add the information to our history.

Or maybe you just have a special story or memory about the Wishkah Valley School, preferably something that would encourage or motivate our student body. Let's face it, the Wishkah Valley is a special place and the Wishkah Valley School District is a special school, so let's celebrate a little.
