Welcome Letter
3rd Grade, Room 17
Wishkah Valley School
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to introduce myself, my name is Ms. J. Cook and I was born and raised in Washington and spent a year teaching in Central Arizona. I recently received a Master’s in Science degree from Louisiana State University Shreveport in Non Profit Administration with national honors. I received my Bachelors of Arts in Education from Eastern Washington University and graduated with Cum Laude honors. My major was Visual Arts with minors in History and Math. I’ve also receive a Master’s Certification in Instructional Design in Technology at the University of North Dakota. This is my 7th year teaching; second year teaching 3rd grade and my fourth year at Wishkah Valley School. When I first got to Wishkah I was teaching in the Kindergarten classroom. Before Wishkah Valley, I spent two years at Hoquiam teaching 1st grade and was in Central Arizona teaching 4th grade before that.
Congratulations on your child advancing to the 3rd grade. This 2020 – 2021 school year is going to be filled with many positive, exciting lessons and experiences. Wishkah Valley is making great positive steps to becoming a school of the future. Students will be using different tools of technology to enhance their learning experience. We’re going to introduce a new iPads, Osmo and Lego WeDo 2.0 systems. I hope to learn from all of my students and their families about their backgrounds and cultures. One of my goals is to better educate our students about different areas of the world outside of the Wishkah/Hoquiam/Aberdeen area. Also, I’m going to have a Donors Choose campaign of extra school supplies, where you can donate to help supply some goodies for our students and enhance our classroom.
Student report card grades outlines are found in the student handbook. During the 2020 - 2021 school year, I would like to make sure our students learn responsibility and become more independent. I believe that in the 3rd grade, students need to be responsible for their own behavior and be aware of their own actions. I like to use the Classdojo behavior system (app), where we can easily communicate and share what we’re doing in the classroom.
Most days I will be in my classroom by 8:00 A.M. and won’t leave school until 3:30 P.M (I usually stay late). You can reach me at the school’s phone number 360 532-3128. My school email is jcook@wishkah.org
Thank you,
Ms. J. Cook
